The Design Process

Design Sketches

The first design stage is a chance for designers to communicate their vision. Whether it is a sketch on a cocktail napkin or alterations on a photograph, send us your idea.

Barbican also has experience re-creating existing lighting fixtures. Send us photographs of the existing fixture.

Creating the 2D Drawings

After the initial brainstorming of the sketching stage, Barbican will develop detailed drawings of the light.  These drawings will show the important aspects of the light like the lamping, materials and dimensions.
These drawings will be reviewed and changed as needed.

Creating the 3D Drawings
After the 2D drawings are approved, Barbican will develope 3D drawings, which can be broken down into the fixture's individual parts. This stage provides a realistic picture of what the light will look like and how it will fit together.
These drawings will be reviewed and changed as needed.

Barbican is pleased to offer web conferencing through BeamYourScreen.  BeamYourScreen allows Barbican to show our computer screen live over the Internet to one or several participants, during a conference call.

This service allows designers in Hong Kong, architects in New York, contractors at the Project site and Barbican in Fort Erie, to all participate in a real-time interactive conference.

In these conferences, participants have a chance to manipulate a 3D model of the light fixture.  Barbican can make changes to the light in real time, allowing for instant project progress.

Prototyping
Prototyping is when Barbican puts the design to the test. A working prototype is developed and final tweaks to the design are made. In the rare case that a major problem crops up, a new 3D model is generated and reviewed.

The perfected fixture is produced and delivered.
